We had a very brief, but fun, visit to SLC. Drove to St. George, up early and drove to SLC. Went to the wedding, the dinner, (with some shopping in between) then back to Eliza's. The Saturday A.M. brunch was fun - even if the invited guests didn't come - those of us who did had a nice visit. Left that afternoon for St. George - the only plus was the fact that we got to set our clocks back 2 hours since we were headed for California! And got to Monrovia at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday!! In time for the fireside - more on that later - and even got unpacked, and called and found out I didn't have to report for jury duty - yet! (I have to call nightly for a week!!)
I will confess to a little melancholy that the visit was so brief. Sometimes you don't realize what you are missing - until you have a taste of it and then you miss it all the more. We are looking forward to Christmas!!

Yeah, the weekend certainly flew by! We were glad to see you all, even though your visit was so brief. You came just in time, weather-wise--apparently valley snow is coming this week, and we heard the wind howling all last night.
Cute Christmas card picture. Maybe someday I’ll get the motivation to send out Christmas cards. I almost did last year. But since we don’t have kids it seems kind of silly to do so!
Eliza-
You know we all still love to hear all about you, even without kids.(We do read your Blog!) If you sent out a card with a picture I would put it in aour little book that we keep where we can look at everyones picture often. (my kids love it)
Very nice picture Barbara.
i agree. in fact i think people (at least i am) more interested in the adults than the children. i mean would you all care about a,e,e,& a if you didn't know us?
so do not fear the christmas card - embrace it - and all the work it entails.
and lovely pic babs - definite card pic.
Real Simple this month has an article on Xmas cards - says you should do 50 tops - after that it would be odious. I have done over 200 for about 20 years now!! But sending - and receiving - cards is my favorite part of Christmas!!
good heavens - i send more than 200 - ithink if you are a member of the church and have moved more than once you have a huge list - family alone adds quite a few.
Sheesh! This is why people (I) don't do Christmas cards!!
Although I'm sure once I got a method going, it wouldn't be too bad.
Right?...right?
We have moved a few times so I have a long list. But, I usually weed out those who don't respond for a couple of years. This keeps my list from growing way too big. And I don't always send pictures to everyone. Usually to family and close friends, sometimes to all. I spend lots of time each year trying to be creative and simple. (I'm not sure I always succeed.) This year I am contemplating sending out New Years cards with a pic that includes the new baby.
Karen, I love your Christmas cards. They are always very clever and I am always tempted to copy them. I think I kind of did last year.
Eliza, everyone wants to know what you guys kook like, are you ugly now that you are married etc. They wonder, Are they not sending cards because they have strange haircuts or have gained weight? So get a move on and send cards. Besides I need to update your family photo.
Okay, okay, you've convinced me.
Pictures of Eliza and Matt for everyone!!
haha.
No really, maybe I'll do it. I'm just not that organized. I wonder if I should admit that I still have about 30 thank-you notes to send from my wedding? Matt thinks I should give up but I'm still plugging away, embarrassing as it is. Maybe those will turn into Christmas/thank-you-2-years-later cards.
Then this spring there are graduation announcements to think about. I've never sent those either. Maybe the Christmas/thank-yous will be my practice.
Yes Eliza, you can do it. Though it is rather overwhelming at times.
And I always think better late than never with thank you cards.
A tardy thank you is BETTER late than never!! (everyone loves mail!!)
i agree with phoebe - we need a new pic for the fridge!
Phoebe, I don't mind if you "sponge" (jeff's word)ideas from us. I love your ideas too. I love the poem you sent out with Henry's birth announcement. I think I copied it into Gideons baby book because it touched me so much.
Ahh, the Henry poem. I fell in love with that one. I actually got it from a memoir of JD Salinger's daughter.
