Even if you are not a teacher, this book would be interesting to you I think. The first couple of chapters just about teaching in the United States was fascinating - I'm wondering why they don't go over this when you are earning your credential!
At the point where I am now, they are giving the history of the unionization of teachers - and that is a pretty checkered past! Of course, women's suffrage and women's rights - as well as the civil rights movement - figure heavily in the story.
It's a book you can pick up or put down, but it's worth the read.
