14 years of wedded bliss!

It was a happy day indeed when Harry and Dawn got married.  The years since this happy day have brought joy, sorrow, adventure, work, and blessings untold.

Congrats to both of you - and best wishes for the years ahead!

An anniversary of sorts -

Here are my dad and mom at Phoebe's wedding reception in August of 1998.  It was the last time he went out socially - after that it was only for doctor visits.  Less than 2 years later - May 12, 2000 - he had died.

Mom got rid of "the wall."  If Dad were alive, it would still be up there!!  He loved his progeny - Mom did too, she just got tired of the photos!!

My mom graduated from Cal State Northridge in 1988 - when she was 66 years old.  Dad wasn't always totally supportive of her education efforts, so it was a long haul.  But once she did graduate, you would have thought it had been all his idea!!

He was a great dad - drove us wherever we wanted to go and waited to drive us home - I'm pretty sure that was to be sure he knew where we were all the time, but it was still nice to be cared for that way.

He always helped us with school projects - and he could cover a textbook with a paper bag so that it never fell off.  I've never mastered that - and it's a lost art without much need anymore - but it's fun to remember.

If your dad is still around, be sure to tell him you love him - and even ask for another story or two!!

On becoming a mother

I look so young in this photo.  Bonny does too for that matter.  But I state the obvious because at the time, I really thought I knew a lot.  I thought I was smarter than my own mother.  I thought I was smarter than people who were less educated than me.  I thought I was smarter than the people I worked with.

And then I became a mother.  And the longer I worked at the job, and the more children we had, the more I realized that the education was just starting!

And I'm still learning.  It never ceases to amaze me!
