The Bed

Harry's Aunt Virginia, who recently died, used to tell me about how she would come home from teaching - she taught 3rd grade for 20 years - and just change into her jammies, get some snacks, turn on the TV - and get into her bed for the night!! She'd eat, read, watch TV, correct papers, talk on the phone, plan her next day's lessons - and go to sleep happy. (She did not have anyone living with her at the time, I might add!)

I could see the appeal - but you'd certainly need to have the house to yourself, now, wouldn't you!!

(I think about that often - but can't seem to get into bed very early. I usually fall asleep reading.)

Last night Harry went to basketball, so I got ready for bed and hopped in with my book. I did get through one chapter of The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate. Then I was too tired to even get up and do a nightly blog post.

Hence this early a.m. post.

But I do feel rested!!

Some thoughts on raising a boy -

I was thinking that a stranger looking at this photo of a 17 year old boy sitting in his somewhat cluttered bedroom might draw some erroneous conclusions.

1989 - probably summer since there's a fan in the room- but then again the fan could be just "lost in the shuffle!"

I was something of a nag I fear. Always after Harry to clean up his room. Always after him to do his homework, make his bed, take out the trash - you get the picture! (Oddly enough, every time he did clean up his room, he would find money!! A check he hadn't cashed, a 20 dollar bill in a pocket or in the pages of a book - almost like a reward for finally cleaning the room up. I think he posited that you had to let it all collect for the money to appear!!)

My point? The teen years are not always the best barometer of what someone will become. You can get lucky and they can find a wonderful wife like Dawn!!

But be sure to take pictures to document the evidence!!
