56 years ago at this time!

So, 56 years ago at this time, I was a recent high school grad who was working at Century Records Manufacturing in Saugus, CA.  It was a job - and actually an interesting.  I was the expediter at a plant that manufactured phonograph records.

LA Unified used to graduate students each semester - and I was a January grad. I had been accepted at BYU, but not until September. In retrospect, I'm not sure why I didn't consider going up mid-year. Probably I couldn't afford to. I had a scholarship but needed housing and eating money.

Some time I ought to blog about my experiences at Century Records - before they had a name for it, I was the victim of sexual harassment - but I didn't even tell anyone - I assumed it was the way life was.

My education wasn't only at school!

Grateful today for so many!

In Flanders Fields by John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place, and in the sky,
The larks, still bravely singing, fly,
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead; short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe!
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high!
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Grateful today for so many soldiers and civilians who paid the price for all the rest of us!!  Thank you!

Very long ago now!!

If I had graduated in June - like most people do now - I would be getting ready to celebrate my 50th anniversary of graduating from high school.

But  I graduated in January of 1963 - back in the day when LAUSD and other districts graduated students every semester.  I consider it a superior system, but I guess no one else does, because it's been done away with!

Some friends of mine from my high school days are planning an informal potluck this month.  And apparently the June class has something planned for September, and they have invited us.  They also invited us to their 20th celebration, and it was less than satisfactory.  But I may go anyway.

Meanwhile, I am sorting and purging once again - as is my wont in the summer time - and have come across some real treasures.  This isn't
one of them - but it is a happy note to reflect on - and the photograph was taken by Greg deRoulhac - a school chum of mine that I sometimes refer to.  His full name was Gregoire Blount deRoulhac - always a mouthful - and always gets some attention.

I have no idea where he is or what he is doing.  But now you know he was a real person and not just a name I made up!
